Yesterday’s episode of Judge Judy kicked ass.
A brief synopsis:
Cute blond drunken drama queen sues hunk because he threw her out of his car. Drama Queen claimed she was assualted.
Firstly, when the announcer read off the case details, I immediately felt the defendant must have been in the right. The fact that a defendent even shows up when accused of something like assualt (unless it’s domestic assualt) is telling. Showing up exposes the accused to further criminal prosecution by commiting to tape the details of the assault. If the hunk was guilty, he most likely would NOT have agreed to have his case heard by JJ.
Slightly less brief synopsis:
Drama Queen started drinking a couple of hours before going to a party with friends. Continues drinking mixed drinks at party. Drama Queen claims she had only 2 beers and 2 mixed drinks between approx. 6pm and 11pm. However, she still “had to take a nap” at the party. This translates into: Drama Queen drank shitloads, so much so that she ended up passing out on a couch. Apparantly when DQ woke up she was belligerent to her hosts which resulted in the hosts asking everyone at the party to leave.
Hunk arrives sober at the party at about 11pm, just in time to learn that the party is over thanks to DQ. DQ’s transportation has already left, so Hunk reluctantly agrees to drive DQ and 4 of her friends home. Hunk only has a 4 seater car, DQ’s group is 4 and Hunk has a (also sober) friend with him so the total is 6 people in a 4 seater car. Hunk lays down the rules, no smoking in the back seat, and no drinking in the car.
During the ride, Hunk sees that DQ is smoking in the back seat, he asks her to put out the ciggy 3 times. DQ doesn’t comply, Hunk finally reaches back grabs the ciggy and tosses it out the window. A few moments later he notices that DQ has reached thru the hatchback and gotten a beer from the trunk, Hunk tells her to get rid of it, DQ mouths off to Hunk.
Hunk has had enough and pulls into parking lot, tells only DQ to get out of his car, her friends can still have a ride home. DQ refuses, because she “didn’t want to be left in the parking lot”. He asks her multiple times to get out of his car, she refuses and at some point she starts dialing her cell phone and threatening Hunk that her brother will come to “beat him up”.
Hunk finally lays hands on DQ and forcibly removes her from his car. DQ claims he “punched me like I was a man” and then after pulling her from the car, pushed her, and she fell hurting her wrist. I’m assuming that Hunk at this point gets back in the car and leaves DQ and at least one of her friends in the parking lot.
DQ later goes to the hospital, calls a cop to meet her there so that she can file a report of assault. The police report states that DQ was so drunk she couldn’t keep track of what was going on, and that she had no visible injuries. DQ protests to JJ that she has a video tape taken a week later of her injuries. JJ refuses to view the tape, knowing that the injuries are possibly faked.
Personal joy over this episode:
I love the stupid. Let me clarify, I love the stupid when they try to lie, expecially when they aren’t trying to lie to me. Drama Queen just couldn’t stop interrupting JJ, constantly trying to protest JJ’s statements. DQ, near the end when she realized that whe was in fact going to lose her case, had this precious look on her face. Jaw-dropped, shaking her head slightly in protest, her eyes wide with incredulity that JJ didn’t believe her. It seemed DQ was shocked that the act she fools her mommy with wasn’t working on JJ. I almost thought DQ might get a tear in her eye because she wasn’t going to win, but DQ held strong, as the stupid often do, and in the after-interview she told us all that she was “really mad”.
Additional Thoughts:
Many of us have been in situations like this. I’m not a big drinker, and when I was younger I often found myself as the driver for my drunken idiot friends and acquaintances. I know what Hunk was feeling, and I think he showed great restraint in dealing with DQ. I almost wished that I was him, driving DQ, so that I could have smacked that stupid bitch like she deserved.
